A Homemade Life: a tipsy pie

An intensely rummy rum cream pie*, made from Molly Wizenberg's Homemade Life. Isabel took a bite the size of a lentil and grabbed her water glass.

Isabel: It's gross. Never make it again.

Owen: I don't really like pies that much. I don't like that they have crusts. They're too crusty.

Husband: I can't handle it. It's making me feel sick even now.

Mary (mother-in-law): It's more like a pudding. Or like egg nog. Very thick and creamy and sweet and you can't eat very much of it.

David (father in law): Unless you're me. It's strong. I like that. But I guess I'd have to say if it were a really great mince pie that would be even better.

Tipsy: I agree with all of them.

*gelatin, whipped cream, sugar, dark rum, egg yolks, graham cracker crust.

  1. Read your piece in Slate and that led me to this blog. Loved them both. Now I'm hooked. Keep up the good work.

Tastes like egg nog. Has a crust. Lots of alcohol. Creamy. Where do I line up for the leftovers?

  3. Hi, listen, I tried to read your post, but there's a huge banner in front of my screen and I can't take it off! I already closed the window and opened it again and it won't work and I really want to read it because my best friend told me about it.
