When is a jelly donut not a jelly donut?

When you buy it at the Big Sur Bakery.

A thin vein of chopped apple bits and cinnamon is not jelly. Once I got over the initial disappointment, I loved this apple fritter very much.

We saw Fantastic Mr. Fox last night and once I got over the callous and wrong-headed portrayal of chickens, I loved this zany movie very much.

  1. i just saw mr. fox the other night and loved it, too - but i don't remember any chickens being portrayed in an unflattering light. what ruffled your feathers (terrible pun intended)? also, is it just me, or could mrs. fox have been voiced by just about anybody?

  2. Concerning the jelly doughnut: pass. Apple fritters should earn their name.

Concerning Mr. Fox: I am eagerly awaiting my chance to see it.

  4. Mr. Fox was too long. And really the whole time I just kept thinking, "That's George Clooney."

Doughnuts are donuts, and when they start costing $3.25, as that donut did, then it's not a donut.
