| My mother's Benetton sweater and the long-lived Banana Republic skirt? |
The media professional told me to wear a fitted top, jewel-toned, perhaps with a scoop neck. And a striking piece of jewelry.
I told myself to wear a "pretty" outfit that doesn't look totally absurd adjacent to a chicken.
Then I went to the mall. Found nothing. Went through my closet. Found two options. I have 36 hours to make adjustments before GMA comes to my house, so your ideas and opinions (gently expressed!) are more than welcome. Some things I'm going to have to live with, like fifteen pounds. But I have time to buy new boots, dig up a better necklace, consider slacks, apply makeup.
Thank you for inviting readers into this decision, which I know is stressful for you. Fashion is far, far from my field, but I do know what I like when I see it. The sweater/skirt outfit is nice, much the better choice.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is slightly more flattering - having a change in color at the waist/hip area is tricky for anybody. Ultimately you should wear whatever you feel more confident wearing (but you knew that).
ReplyDeleteGood luck on GMA! I love your book and I'm very happy for you and your success.
i like the purple one with the necklace cause its more flattering and has exciting colors
ReplyDeleteI think you look pretty sassy in both, but I think just maybe the blue sweater skirt combo is better.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be creepy, but I'm excited just to get a glimpse of what you look like! I understand though, I never let anyone take my picture either.
Also, duh. I just clicked on the tab on top of your blog's home page and there you are!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I can't wait to DVR GMA and watch you.
Oh, I love that dress. I have too much to say in a comment.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the skirt and sweater!
ReplyDeleteOMG good luck! sounds very scary to me. wear whatever you feel comfortable in. where will you be? walking? sitting? try the outfit where you will be sitting or standing.
ReplyDeletesomething new might be dangerous. something tried and true and you is better.
skirt & sweater. All good thoughts.
ReplyDeletethe dress. people don't hold chickens wearing sweaters. so excited for you :)
ReplyDeleteThe Anthropologie dress wins it for me. That said, whatever you feel most confident and comfortable in will read better, so - go with your instincts!
ReplyDeleteI am giggling that the comments are equally split, which tells me you have two good choices here. Wear what you like and what makes you less paranoid. I would have a nervous breakdown if GMA were coming to my house. Can't wait to cheer you on! We'll get you on a book tour yet.
ReplyDeleteDress with a chunkier necklace. Definitely.
ReplyDeleteYes, that dress is adorable but needs more necklace to balance the fabulous boots.
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable in both. Blue is your color.
ReplyDeleteboth ARE cute but I vote skirt and sweater, it looks more comfortable next to a chicken. The boots are totally fine too; the necklace hits the neck of the sweater just a bit in the photo though -- maybe it's your pose but if it were me I would try a couple more necklaces with it. But either way, you and your deck will look fine!
ReplyDeleteI vote skirt and sweater.
ReplyDeleteSweater and skirt look great, especially with that pose. The dress is also nice, but very "dressy" while the first look is more casual, "oh, you decided to drop by? how nice!" :) Good luck - when is the show being aired (so I can dvr it)? Best, Ida
ReplyDeleteTipsy you're the best. And you look great! I suggest the Anthro dress. It's a bit more polished and modern than the skirt combo, in my very gentle opinion, although the color of the top and the dress are both very flattering. Either way you will look great but my vote is the dress.
ReplyDeletewithout a doubt the anthro dress looks the best! Good luck...
ReplyDeleteskirt and sweater.
ReplyDeleteI think you look terrific in both! Altho, there is something charming about the skirt and sweater pose...good luck to you on GMA!
ReplyDeleteThey're both really nice. You look like your book jacket photo in the skirt and sweater (is that good? Like product recognition?) but if it means anything to you, you look MUCH younger in the dress. Good luck, I'll be watching! Ps- I don't comment enough, but I've been a fan ever since Dana Stevens plugged you on Slate, about three years ago. Can't wait to buy the book too!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the skirt/sweater - it looks cute and modern and casual yet polished. But I second the comment about a shorter necklace. Have you considered switching the necklace for earrings? I'm thinking along the lines of slightly dangly, maybe hammered gold (like the necklace, but perhaps shinier). Earrings move around less if they're small, so they won't get into disarray (i.e. crooked, clasp migrated to front, under the shirt... I'm sure this won't happen to you, but it would happen to me), and they're harder to fiddle with unconsciously.
ReplyDeleteOption 1. Sweater and skirt. Very pretty, comfortable and looks good with chickens. You are very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love those colors on you! I vote dress.
ReplyDeleteAre you posting somewhere all of your promo gigs? When's the GMA piece airing? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteyou look very cute in both outfits, but i believe the superior one is the skirt and sweater. those "extra fifteen" you mentioned are nowhere to be found in that outfit!
ReplyDeleteI think you are safe with either choice. However,if you will be sitting for the interview, why don't you try sitting in front of a full-length mirror and determining which YOU like better?!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love those chicken planters. Where did you find them?
This is way, way too late to be helpful, but I think you look beautiful in the Anthro dress. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that dress. It is so beautiful!
